‘I thought my husband was cheating – the truth was far more devastating’

‘I thought my husband was cheating – the truth was far more devastating’

A busy couple’s life unravels

Anna and her husband James* were a typical, hectic duo. They both held demanding jobs; James managed his tattoo parlor while Anna balanced part-time office duties with raising their two young children in their Midland home.

‘James would say he needed to run errands at the shop before heading out, but his absences often stretched for hours, and when he returned, he’d only have a bar of chocolate or something,’ Anna tells Metro.

Secretive behavior raises questions

James had been keeping his phone close, even bringing it into the bathroom during his shower. It was always tucked in his pocket, and he’d applied a privacy screen to his device.

‘He told me it was for banking and client confidentiality, and so people couldn’t steal his info when he was out and about. I just brushed it off, but the growing sense of unease in my stomach, which had been building for months, only deepened,’ recalls Anna.

Clues lead to a shocking revelation

While James was away one morning, Anna flipped through his work diary and spotted the name ‘John’ recurring every few weeks, each time marking off an entire day. That seemed odd for his line of work.

‘A couple of days later, I went through his pockets and noticed he had a train ticket for the same day John was scheduled to visit the studio,’ she remembers.

Anna’s suspicions grew as she discovered James’s routine. Desperate for answers, she contacted a private investigation firm known as Reveal Private Investigators, knowing it was a last resort.

‘I felt I needed professionals to help because they would know the best way to uncover the truth. I didn’t want to do it myself because I didn’t want to be sneaking around and following him,’ explains Anna.

The truth comes to light

On the day of the recurring appointment, an investigator shadowed James. The next morning, while Anna was at home with the kids, the PI delivered some shocking news.

‘The investigator approached her with care, gently revealing that James had arrived at his studio, turned all the lights on, and opened the blinds. But then he locked up again, exited via the rear gate, and headed toward the train station,’ says Anna.

After leaving the station, James purchased a greeting card and baby items from separate stores, paused to inscribe a note, and later met a woman accompanied by a newborn infant at a café.

‘I couldn’t believe what I was hearing, and when I saw photos, I instantly recognized him from the way he cradled the infant and gazed at it. My heart dropped,’ remembers Anna.

A life turned upside down

Anna’s world shattered. ‘It was awful, just life shattering. I cried uncontrollably for a long time. We’d built a life together – we had two kids – and everything had come crashing down. But at the same time, I felt relieved to finally know the truth,’ she says.

Later that day, with the children tucked up in bed, Anna confronted her husband. ‘I told him straight out: “I think you’re cheating on me. I think there’s more to the story as to why you’re going out at night, why you’re being so secretive.” I mentioned the diary entries, and he just denied everything,’ Anna recalls.

‘So, then I said I had proof and showed James the pictures – that’s when he broke down. He was immediately apologetic and begged for forgiveness. But how sorry can you really be when you’ve done all that? I knew it was the end then,’ says Anna.

James finally admitted that the baby was his and that he’d been seeing another woman for a year, who had fallen pregnant by accident. ‘I was furious. I told him that he’d ruined everything. He’d destroyed our little family unit, turned the kids’ lives upside down. I got all his stuff together, chucked it into a bag, and threw it out the door, demanding he left,’ Anna says.

‘I was angry – I still am. You can never forget about someone doing that to your family. I told the kids that daddy’s gone for a holiday for a bit, and then when I calmed down enough, he came back for a couple of days while we tried to transition into our new separate lives,’ she adds.
