Incident in Redcar under investigation
Authorities have detained a man following the death of a three-month-old female child from what is believed to be a dog attack in Redcar. Police responded to an address on Hardale Grove, Dormanstown, shortly after 13:30 BST on Thursday due to concerns about a child’s safety.
Two canines were killed during the operation—one on the street and the other at the property. The 45-year-old suspect was charged with allowing a dog to act dangerously out of control, leading to fatal injuries. He has since been granted conditional bail pending further inquiries.
“Our thoughts remain with the child’s family during this heartbreaking event,” stated Ch Supt Rachel Stockdale, head of local policing. “We are committed to maintaining a presence at the location while the investigation unfolds and ask that their privacy be honored in this challenging period.”
Additionally, a 31-year-old woman sustained an arm injury in the incident and was hospitalized for treatment. Both dogs were evaluated by a specialist officer and were not identified as belonging to a restricted breed.
Cleveland Police have urged anyone with relevant information, including video footage, to reach out. The force continues to probe the circumstances surrounding the tragic occurrence.
