Settlers Breach Palestinian Home in West Bank Village as Owner Trapped Inside

The episode, which unfolded over roughly an hour before military intervention, has intensified scrutiny over how authorities respond to repeated raids targeting communities near Nablus.

The home belonging to Louay Adli became the focal point of the confrontation. Adli described how the group arrived early in the afternoon and immediately began pelting the structure with rocks. As he reached out to Israeli police, the crowd grew to what he estimated at 60 or 70 individuals.

“They surrounded us from all sides and threw stones at all of us. This went on for a whole hour until the army came from in front of the house, while the settlers were from behind.”

Adli recounted that soldiers eventually appeared at one side of the building while the settlers pressed from the opposite flank. He characterized the military’s initial posture as passive observation before tear gas was deployed into the interior of the home. Footage circulating from the scene appears to corroborate his account, showing settlers hurling rocks from one wall while uniformed personnel operated along the other.

Trapped on the Roof

Adli said he and six other occupants fled to the rooftop because the tear gas made the interior uninhabitable.

“We could not breathe inside. We were suffocating and the army had us trapped with the settlers.”

Following the dispersal, Adli stated that Israeli security forces detained him, blindfolded him, and cautioned him against returning to his own property. Three vehicles linked to the raid were confiscated, according to a statement from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Military Account and the Question of Accountability

The Israel Defense Forces, in a joint communiqué with border police, described the operation as a response to “dozens of rioters” who had barricaded themselves inside a Palestinian home while residents were also present. The forces said they “dispersed” the group “using various means” and characterized their own use of force as “proportionate,” directed at a Palestinian they accused of resisting and throwing stones.

What the official narrative did not explain was why dozens of identified rioters were permitted to depart without a single arrest. As of Sunday evening, no detainees had been announced. An Israeli police spokesman indicated that an investigation remained open and that investigators were assembling additional evidence.

The IDF added that security forces were working “to locate those involved and hold them accountable in accordance with the law,” language that has become familiar in post-incident statements yet has rarely translated into visible prosecutions.

Political Reactions

Israeli President Isaac Herzog condemned the Qusra episode as a “direct and flagrant defiance of the laws and values of the State of Israel,” adding that it constituted “another incident in a disturbing sequence of events that casts a stain on Israel’s image and demands firm and decisive action.”

From Washington, US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee labeled the settler violence a “horrific act of terror meant to intimidate and harass,” underscoring the diplomatic sensitivity surrounding repeated assaults on Palestinian communities.

A Pattern Around Nablus

Qusra is not an isolated target. In recent months, settlers have besieged the village on multiple occasions, ignoring official orders to vacate the area and attempting to pressure Palestinian families — some of whom hold American citizenship — into abandoning their land. Ayed Jafry, a Palestinian activist operating near Nablus and active in both Qusra and the neighboring town of Jalud, described the surrounding villages as under constant threat.

“The villages surrounding the city of Nablus are being targeted, specifically in these areas.”

Jafry added that, in his observation, the military frequently coordinates with settlers rather than intervening to stop them, a dynamic that residents say leaves them exposed during incursions.

Separate Attack on a News Crew in Jalud

On the same Saturday, a separate confrontation unfolded in the West Bank town of Jalud, where masked settlers assaulted a television news crew that was interviewing a Palestinian woman. Aida Ahmed Abdullah told the reporting team that her family had been driven from their home by settlers. While the interview was underway, masked men arrived by vehicle and struck the crew with sticks.

Correspondent Matt Bradley, who was among those beaten, described the sequence: “They jumped out, beat us, then jumped back in the car.” He was subsequently treated at a nearby clinic.

The Foreign Press Association issued a statement condemning the assault and calling for a formal investigation, noting: “This is not an isolated incident — it is part of a recurring pattern of violence against members of the press and Palestinian civilians.”

Settlement Context

More than 700,000 Israeli settlers reside in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem. The vast majority of the international community regards these settlements as illegal under international law. Israel’s current right-wing government has elevated settlement expansion to a central policy priority, advancing plans for thousands of new housing units and approving scores of additional settlement projects across the territory.
