Savannah Guthrie returns to NBC’s Today show, as search for mother goes on
Savannah Guthrie resumes her role at NBC’s Today show
On Monday, US television presenter Savannah Guthrie is set to return to NBC’s Today show, following a period of absence since her mother’s disappearance. Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of the host, was reported missing two days prior, on 30 January. The family had previously announced a $1 million reward for information leading to her safe return.
Guthrie temporarily paused her anchoring responsibilities after Nancy’s disappearance, also withdrawing from NBC’s coverage of the Winter Olympics. Last month, she stated in an interview with Today that “it’s part of my purpose right now” to return to work, though she admitted uncertainty about her capacity to continue.
“I still believe. And so I say with conviction, ‘Happy Easter,'” she declared during her closing message at the Good Shepherd New York church service on Easter Sunday.
Authorities suspect Nancy was abducted from her Tucson, Arizona home against her will, though no motive has been disclosed and no suspect has been arrested. Nancy vanished without her medications, leaving her relatives concerned. She was last seen being dropped off at her residence on 31 January, only to fail to appear at a friend’s house the next morning for a virtual Sunday service.
