Four Teens Arrested in Connection with Fatal Stabbing of 16-Year-Old Boy
A 16-year-old boy’s death following a stabbing has prompted the arrest of four teenagers. The incident occurred in Riseholme, a neighborhood close to the Ortongate Shopping Centre in Peterborough, as reported by Cambridgeshire Police shortly before 19:00 BST on Sunday. Authorities indicated the attack was intentional, prompting a school to temporarily close its doors due to a serious event nearby.
Police Presence and School Closure
St John’s Church School in Peterborough decided to shut down after police began investigating a site near its premises. An email shared with the BBC highlighted the decision, stating that officers were “processing a site in close proximity to the school.” An image captured the area around the shopping centre on Sunday night, showing a substantial police operation. A restricted zone remained near the Riseholme entrance on Monday morning, with the shopping centre’s rear car park still closed.
Arrest Details and Charges
Two individuals, a 15-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man, both from Peterborough, were taken into custody on suspicion of murder. Additionally, two girls, aged 16 and 17, were detained for allegedly aiding the perpetrator. The 16-year-old girl, also from March, faces charges related to possessing a bladed weapon. All suspects are currently held by police.
“This is a tragic incident which has resulted in the death of a young man, and we are in contact with his family and keeping them updated,” said Det Ch Insp Richard Stott from the Beds, Cambs and Herts Major Crime Unit. “While we understand the death will be concerning for local people, we do not believe this was a random attack. There will be a significant police presence in the area over the coming days.”
Residents have been encouraged to share any relevant information or CCTV footage with law enforcement. The shopping centre remains open, though its rear car park is under restriction. The school has pledged to “continue monitoring the situation” and provide updates on when it will reopen.
