Three Men Found Guilty in Mexico Surf Trip Killings

Earthguardiansonline.com – Three men found guilty in the 2024 killings of two Australian brothers and their American friend now await sentencing in Baja California. The victims, who had traveled to Mexico for a surfing trip, disappeared near Punta San Jose in April 2024.

A judge in Ensenada found Jesús Gerardo García, known as “El Kekas,” Irineo Francisco “N,” and Ángel Jesús “N” guilty of murder, armed robbery and armed carjacking. The ruling was delivered Friday, more than two years after Australians Callum Robinson and Jake Robinson and American Carter Redd Rhoad were killed.

The defendants have been held in custody throughout the case. Their sentences are due to be announced on October 16, and prosecutors from the Baja California State Attorney General’s Office have requested 210-year prison terms for each man.

Surfing Trip Ends in Tragedy

Callum and Jake Robinson, along with Rhoad, traveled to Baja California in April 2024 to surf along Mexico’s Pacific coast. They were staying near Punta San Jose, about 80 kilometers, or 50 miles, south of Ensenada, when they were reported missing soon after arriving.

The disappearance prompted concern in Mexico, Australia and the United States. On May 3, 2024, searchers found the bodies of all three men in a well.

The case received widespread international attention because the victims were foreign visitors in a coastal area known for beaches, camping and surfing. The verdict establishes criminal responsibility for the robbery, carjacking and killings, though sentencing remains ahead.

“Today’s guilty verdict is a significant moment in our long and painful journey to seek justice for our beautiful sons, Callum and Jake, and their friend Carter Rhoad, whose lives were so cruelly taken from them in 2024,” said Martin Robinson, father of Callum and Jake.

Trial Evidence and Convictions

García was identified as the person who carried out the killings. He was arrested in May 2024 along with his former partner, Ary Gisell Silva Raya, Irineo Francisco “N,” and Ángel Jesús “N.”

During month-long court proceedings, Silva Raya testified that García had confessed to arriving at the visitors’ tent with a 9mm handgun. She said the men began throwing out their belongings when they saw him, apparently trying to avoid an attack.

According to her testimony, one of the victims pleaded for his life, but the attacker continued. Prosecutors said Silva Raya arrived in Punta San Jose on April 27, 2024, encountered the three visitors and encouraged one of her companions to rob them. Prosecutors said the robbery took place the following day.

Silva Raya possessed one victim’s cellphone. In November 2025, she was sentenced to 20 years in prison after admitting guilt through an expedited proceeding on charges of aggravated robbery with violence and vehicle theft with violence.

While Silva Raya accepted responsibility in her case, García and the other two defendants challenged the allegations at trial. The court ultimately found the three men guilty of the crimes.

What Happens After the Verdict?

The October 16 hearing is expected to determine the prison terms for the three convicted men. Prosecutors have sought 210-year sentences for each defendant, but the court will make the final decision.

For the families of Robinson, Robinson and Rhoad, the ruling is an important legal development but cannot reverse the loss of three young men whose trip was intended to be an adventure with friends.

“No outcome can ever undo this tragedy, but we hope today marks an important step towards justice and allows us to continue honoring their lives and the extraordinary young men they were,” Martin Robinson said. “They will never be forgotten.”
